The Baule make jewelry in gold and brass to display wealth and status. Not just people, but sculptures, are adorned with these individually made ornaments. These earrings are based on beads in a necklace from the Baule peoples of the Côte d&#39Ivoire in the Smithsonian&#39s National Museum of African Art.
