JASPER is a form of chalcedony that is opaque tough fibrous and massive with a greater density of mineral inclusions such as iron oxides and earthy clays than agate. Jasper can occur as nodules or veins in bedded sedimentary or metamorphic deposits.
Also called Dalmatian Stone, this stone’s name is derived from it’s resemblance to the black and brown spotted Dalmatian dogs. It was referred to in ancient Greek, Hebrew, Latin and Assyrian texts where it was used as a protection amulet, it was believed to warn the wearer of danger and to fortify the spirit.
