Mentuhotep III Cufflinks

This detail of a hieroglyphic relief spells out “Given Life, Stability and Dominion Forever.” The original limestone relief, executed in a Memphite-inspired style, shows Montuhotep III wearing a ceremonial beard and the Red Crown of Lower Egypt performing a ritual dance beneath the outstretched wings of the Horus falcon. To the right, the king, now wearing a traditional “nemes” head cloth, confronts Lunyt, Goddess of the city Armant. She gives him “all life, dominion and stability...all health and happiness”.
