Geometric Greek Horse Sculpture

Greece & Italy
750-700 B.C..From the collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art. The original horse statuette (H. 11.5 cm, W. 10 cm, D 2.6 cm) was cast in bronze by a Corinthian workshop, probably for dedication at a Greek sanctuary. Conceived in profile, the horse’s form has been abstracted and balanced in a wonderful proportional harmony that appears strikingly modern.
